The park is surrounded by hill ridges and bordered in the north-east by the Kalungwishi River, on which there are three attractive waterfalls. Much of Lusenga Plains is grassland fringed by dry evergreen and swamp forest, while the remainder is covered by dense miombo woodland. Game populations have been greatly reduced by poaching, but buffalo, blue and yellow-backed duiker, bushbuck and reedbuck can still be seen. Summers here are hot and humid. Location: Far northern Zambia; north of Lusaka. Access: From Lusaka follow the main road towards Mpika for 440 km; turn left and drive for 137 km to Mukuku, then a further 206 km to Mansa; at Mansa turn right and travel northwards for 168 km to Kawambwa; from there take the road towards Mporokoso; the park is on the left. It can also be reached via Mporokoso to the east or Luwingu to the south-east. There are no internal roads. Accommodation: None. Other facilities: None.
